A first Sak Yant is a milestone for many devotees. This article gathers everything you should know before you go — from preparing your body and mind to caring for the tattoo afterwards.
Before You Go
Get a good night's sleep and eat before you come. Avoid alcohol both the night before and on the day itself. Wear clothing that gives easy access to the spot being tattooed — for a back piece, a top that comes off or opens at the back. Study the yant designs you are drawn to in advance, or simply consult the Ajarn at the studio.
What to Bring
By tradition, a Sak Yant begins with a Yok Kru offering to honour the master's lineage — typically flowers, incense, candles, and a teacher's fee, as each studio prescribes. For the studio of Ajarn Noo Ganpai, you can ask about the Yok Kru offerings in advance via LINE @g123 for convenience.
During and After the Tattoo
During the session, keep your mind calm and hold the masters of the lineage in your thoughts. When the tattoo is complete, the Ajarn performs the blessing and seals it with sacred incantations. In the first days, care for it as you would any tattoo — no soaking, no strong sun — and above all, keep the precepts and follow the studio's rules, so that the yant retains its full power according to belief.
